while there are so many radical neighbourhoods to stay in LA - our personal fave is venice beach. venice is a smorgasbord of beach bums & babes & burritos.

while the golden gate bridge is defs on the must see list when days are not so foggy, the lesser known sister is the east bay bridge that takes you over to oakland, where the locals say - thats where it's really at.

jules is like the ultimate grown up version of the underground california girl. you know, the anti-it girl. the girl who rocks up to parties dressed up as wayne & makes her dude be garth.

this collection is an ode to the palm tree - that sways & make poems with the breeze and stand tall in the storm & rough seas.

i first wrote to dee asking whether she would like to be featured on la maison jolie. her cheery reply started with the words ahoy rani & ended with big love; the entire email was written in lower case & sprinkled generously with exclamation marks.

when my husband & i first met we would text each other things like, hey wanna go to dinner? & we would respond with yes, sea. it was our little joke ‘cos my first language is spanish & we spent plenty of time in the sea.
